Transportation Manager Akron/Canton, Ohio

Direct the safe and efficient outbound fleet transportation operations of general merchandise from a distribution center to support retail stores on a 24/7 schedule.  Effectively leading a team of (100+) drivers and a support team to improve company performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, mentoring, coaching and training to the outbound transportation fleet operations team (100+) drivers, supervisors and coordinators  
  • Provide leadership for safety of company programs and initiatives
  • Responsible for budget development, expense control and revenue departments/divisions
  • Participate in the development of long term and short term transportation strategies.
  • Develop and administer operating plan for transportation budget
  • Administer the intent of the labor agreement
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal transportation procedures and laws
  • Identify and recommend purchase or lease of capital equipment

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics or Transportation; Masters Degree is a plus
  • 4 to 8 years of Fleet Transportation Operations management expertise with daily supervision of (50+) drivers
  • Proven leadership with the ability to make sound decisions and hold people accountable to clear expectations
  • Experience with labor unions is a plus
  • Results oriented with a sense of urgency to exceed defined KPS’s and goals
  • Has demonstrated the ability to implement and embrace positive change
  • A strategic, analytical and business savvy  leader
  • Candidate develops talent through effective coaching and training
  • Food or foodservice transportation/distribution experience is a plus
  • P& L/Budget responsibility for transportation operations department
  • Excellent TMS TMW system skills. TZA labor standards experience, Smart Drive and PeopleNet systems experience are a plus
  • Strong MS Office Excel and Access skills
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
