Distribution Asset Planning provides engineers an opportunity to expand their technical knowledge of the distribution system while growing their communication and business skills when providing support to the Company’s financial obligations. We provide support to Distribution Design, Operations, Substation Engineering, System Protection, DPMO, Regulatory, and many other working groups in order to upgrade, expand, repair, maintain and reliably operate assets safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. Distribution Planning is responsible for the orderly and economic expansion of the electric substations and distribution system to meet present and future demand while providing high quality, reliable electric service at a competitive cost. Responsibilities include performing technical system studies, developing and preparing recommendations, assisting field personnel in solving operational issues and communicating action plans to appropriate personnel and entities.
Resolve electric system issues and effectively communicate detailed documentation and plans of a complex design with other work groups. Incorporate employee and public safety as a priority into the design and operation of all projects. Effectively manage a significant number of projects while maintaining work product quality, consistency, accuracy and reliability. Develop new processes and tools that benefit the group in the analysis of the electric system and multiple large data sets of historical operating conditions. Promote environmental responsibility, corporate citizenship, and ethical conduct while setting a standard of excellence. Maintain a current knowledge of electric utility rules, technical, administrative and regulatory requirements for reliable, safe operation of the system. Work independently and be able to train and coach newer less experienced engineers. Ability to apply analysis to identify the best solution to a technical problem, and to effectively communicate and commit to a course of action that is consistent with all legal, regulatory, code, standard, or other requirements as well as corporate policies and procedures. Perform power flow studies using CYME including creating and maintaining underlying databases. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office software including PowerPoint, Word and Excel with VBA skills Technical decision making, good interpersonal skills, organization skills, and effective oral and written communication skills. Software Automation and Scripting is a plus. Maintain a current knowledge of electric utility rules, technical, administrative and regulatory requirements for reliable, safe operation of the system. Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job and other specific job requirements.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required Must be an EIT with ability to become registered PE in Texas – or a PE in Tezxs. Must have 2 – 15 years experience the planning, modeling, design, project management, and construction of distribution. Successful in cross-functional or collaborative environments, time and project management. Requires high proficiency in PC skills such as, Excel, Power Point, Word, and Access. Knowledge of database development in SQL, web applications is desired. Knowledge of company standards, operations, policies and procedures
