Job Description

The primary function of the job is to source and to qualify suppliers for each part or assembly program. This needs to be done in a timely manner to support trial and production orders, while meeting customer’s expectations.  

 

Job Responsibilities

The responsibility of this position is leading the sourcing and supplier management activities to include cost modeling, price review/reductions, material cost adjustments, Engineering Change Instructions (ECI) maintenance, and other purchasing elements for assigned commodities. Additional responsibilities:

  • Gather preliminary part level data details, usage, logistics requirements, material specs, and drawings to issue Requests for Quotation (RFQ) to make supplier selection.
  • Acquire product information, then break that information down to confirm supplier’s quote of that product.
  • Use physical samples or drawing data, to calculate area, perimeter, usages and required labor of a specific product being quoted.
  • Forecast/report material fluctuation based on the market index.
  • Create and maintain cost models for parts, assemblies, and/or raw materials.
  • Conduct Trial Orders/Promise Delivery Date Requests (PDDR) for Pre-production price setting.
  • Maintain current Production/ECI pricing through continuously monitoring the design and communicating/negotiating with the supplier.
  • Responsible for creating an established budget and Tooling Purchase Order issuance to pay suppliers for tooling and non-standard items.

Qualifications

The successful candidate needs to have the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree akin Business, Mechanical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 4-years purchasing required and related experience in a Tier-1, Tier-2 or Tier 3 automotive supplier is preferred.
  • CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) designation is preferred.
  • Experience managing new programs based on QCDM (Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Management) supplier evaluation.
  • Ability to read components and assembly blueprints and drawings (including 2D/3D) with the experience in sourcing component parts or raw materials from drawings.
  • Being self-motivated, goal-oriented, quality-driven, and capable of working without supervision is needed for this position.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work efficiently within time constraints and deadlines, and handle stressful situations.
  • Strong attention to detail, strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with all levels of the organization.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be required.
  • Proficiency in Japanese and/or Spanish would be helpful.
  • Previous experience working with ERP System experience (e.g., Oracle) preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge and demonstrated intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Excel, TEAMS, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Internet, etc.).
