Lead Consulting Engineer, Electric Distribution will design and review distribution design work packages from 4kV to 69kV, including engineering and design of overhead, URD, asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit, residential design, reconductor/Cable replacement, equipment selection, voltage conversion and feeder upgrade/extension. Additionally, will review completed designs and design products to ensure compliance with client quality and consistency standards.

Location: Phoenix, Onsite or Hybrid

Responsibilities:

• Design and review overhead and underground distribution line projects from 4kV to 69kV
• Develop overhead, URD, re-conductoring and asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit work packages
• Design complex overhead and underground distribution projects in urban and rural environments in compliance with client's engineering and construction specifications, field engineering of project requirements, identification of conflicting utilities, engineering and design calculations, and work permit development Develop Point to Point (PtP) testing plans and lead field and office personnel in the field testing
• Coordinate small design teams as needed to develop budgets, prepare scoping documents, design criteria, and project deliverables
• Provide clients with engineering assistance during construction, and be available to attend construction meetings, coordination efforts and community outreach as needed
• Review of completed designs and design products to ensure compliance with client quality and consistency standards
• Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or those external to complete substation projects
• Effectively lead and provide guidance and training to a team of 8 engineers
• Identify and initiate corrective action when substation project objectives are not being met
• Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projects
• Promote engineering professionalism and standards
• Develop, recommend, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements that include all scheduling, resources, and information for complex engineering
• Scheduled travel up to 30% of the time to client sites, required: duration of travel may vary depending on project needs

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar, required; an advanced degree, MSEE, preferred
• Professional Engineer (PE) License Required
• 7+ years of electric utility industry engineering experience, including advanced knowledge of electrical distribution system design engineering standards, practices, and regulatory requirements
• 7+ years’ experience in overhead, URD, re-conductoring and asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit distribution design work package development
• 7+ years of experience with complex overhead and underground distribution projects in urban and rural environments
• Advanced knowledge of NESC and other applicable codes and standards
• Strong written and verbal communication and people management skills
• Demonstrate advanced ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary
