We’re partnered with a national SBA lender and Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) with more than 50 years of history providing equity capital, training, and strategic advisory to the communities they serve. With approximately $2B in assets under management, the organization is well capitalized, lends nationally, and offers a flexible, non-bank credit environment that allows experienced SBA producers to compete and win business.

Reporting to the Director of Lending, this role requires someone with an entrepreneurial mindset and the discipline to work independently. The platform provides in-house underwriting, closing, and portfolio management support, allowing lenders to stay focused on business development, relationships, and deal structuring.

This is a remote role but will require travel both locally and nationally to attend meetings, conferences, and prospect new business.

What’s Expected of You

As SBA Lending Manager, you’ll be responsible for sourcing, structuring, and closing SBA 7(a) loan opportunities while developing and maintaining a strong referral network of centers of influence (COIs). The role is best suited for a proven SBA producer who has a strong network of COIs, is a self-starter, and values autonomy—someone who consistently delivers results and drives growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of SBA 7(a) lending opportunities through COIs, referral partners, and direct prospecting.
  • Cultivate and expand relationships with accountants, attorneys, business brokers, consultants, and other referral sources.
  • Structure SBA transactions and perform initial credit assessments; full financial spreading capability preferred.
  • Navigate SBA SOP guidelines and ensure deals are properly positioned prior to submission to underwriting.
  • Collaborate with internal underwriting, closing, and portfolio management teams to move transactions efficiently through the process.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities locally and nationally.
  • Travel as needed to support business development and relationship management efforts (dedicated travel budget provided).
  • Meet or exceed annual production expectations of $10MM+.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years of SBA lending experience with a demonstrated track record of production and an existing network of COI relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of SBA SOPs and SBA 7(a) loan structures.
  • Credit acumen with the ability to perform preliminary deal assessments and identify viable opportunities.
  • Established COI network strongly preferred, particularly in the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, or Southeast (CT, OH, NC, NJ, NY, TX viewed favorably).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Strong relationship management, communication, and business development skills.

Compensation & Benefits

As required by local law, Highland Consulting Group believes $135,000 to be a reasonable base compensation range for this role, depending on experience and qualifications. Based on information provided to us, the position is also generally understood to include a production-based incentive program, with a sliding-scale structure similar to the following:

  • $5MM production — 0.25 bps
  • $5MM–$7.5MM — 0.50 bps
  • $7.5MM–$10MM — 0.75 bps
  • $10MM+ — 1.00 bp

While this is intended to represent the structure as we understand it, final compensation and incentives are determined by the organization.
