Senior FERC Attorney

Our client, a large, multi-state investor-owned electric utility, is looking to grow their team of Senior FERC Attorneys. The successful candidates will be responsible for representing the company’s transmission and distribution units before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) and related appeals in transmission and wholesale market proceedings. The positions will be located in Akron, Ohio.

What you’ll do:

  • Handle legal matters in the areas of federal public utility regulatory law, with special emphasis on PJM and other RTO markets and transmission matters before FERC and other tribunals
  • Work with internal and external counsel, consultants, business unit staff, and other industry stakeholders
  • Manage outside counsel
  • Perform legal research, with special emphasis on Administrative Procedure Act regulatory agency rules and adjudications, with follow-on appellate litigation
  • Advise internal business clients and other FirstEnergy counsel on matters within the attorney’s responsibility
  • Provide legal, strategic and business advice


What you will need:

  • J.D. from an accredited university
  • Member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • 7-10 years of litigation experience, FERC experience preferred; experience with state utility regulatory work is a plus
  • Deep knowledge and experience with Administrative Procedure Act regulatory agency rules and adjudications, with follow-on appellate litigation
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to understand new areas
