This position’s primary function is to perform activities associated with generator interconnect requests, and Near-Term Planning. Perform and/or lead the steady-state, stability and sub synchronous resonance studies performed to determine the interconnection arrangement and transmission system improvements necessary to connect and provide transmission access to proposed generators to Company’s transmission system. This position supports Transmission Planning by identifying and modeling appropriately high-stressed conditions seen in operations for analysis and mitigation in the transmission planning process.
Participate in the generator interconnection study process including interfacing with generator developers, managing workflow and reporting results Perform steady state, stability and SSR studies to evaluate the impact of proposed generators on the transmission system Support transmission outage scheduling activities in the 3-12 month out time-frame, including identification of switching actions to mitigate the risk of high-impact congestion. Participate in activities associated with developing and/or removing Remedial Action Schemes (RAS) to enhance generator access to transmission system. Support Transmission Planning, including providing historically recurring, and forward anticipated, stressful system characteristics including, but not limited to load levels, generation patterns and weather driven power transfers. Develop new processes and tools for the analysis of the transmission system including the assessment of multiple large datasets of historical operating conditions. Maintain a current knowledge of all electric utility rules, technical, administrative and regulatory requirements for reliable, safe operation of the Electric Delivery transmission system.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required. Must be an EIT with ability to become registered PE in Texas – or a PE in Texas. Must have 2 – 15 years experience in performing power flow studies using PSS/E including using Python, or Power World including using SimAuto, including creating and maintaining underlying databases. Using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint with high level of proficiency using VBA in Excel. Must be experience in power transmission systems. Familiarity of ERCOT practices associated with ERCOT transmission modeling and power flow assessment, including the ERCOT Planning Guide and ERCOT Protocols. Excellent communication and organizational skills are needed to work with ERCOT, consultants, contractors, and internal utility personnel
